I just bought this duvet about a week ago, and here are the ways it does/doesn't match the above description:
Colors: This is mostly green--a muted, loden-type, sort of olive green. In the photos, it looks like it has more purples and pinks, but overall it's a bit more green and gold with a little pumpkin color and some dark plum. It's definitely as muted as the photos. (For one a bit more colorful, see the similar design from Ralph Lauren in their Poet's Society collection)
Design: The design (which is printed on, not woven or embroidered in) does look a lot like a persian rug. And to me, a LOTR fan, it looks almost elvish in overall appearance as there are a lot of interwoven, celtic-type lines on the outer edge. There are a few small pumpkin-colored flowers (not pink) that break up the green. In the middle is a dark plum-colored fancy medallion, about 1.5 ft in diameter. Also, don't expect a crisp design; the whole duvet is a bit fuzzy, almost pixellated, as if it was meant to look 3-D like tapestry. (this is the only reason it doesn't get five stars)
Texture: "Luxuriously soft"--um, no. The material is a very sturdy, canvas-type material (a bit thicker than a heavy denim) that will not fray or tear easily--which is a plus with me, as so many others seem made of such cheap fabric. However, it's not soft at all. So on top (the design side) it is a very thick canvas type material; inside, it's like a very thick cotton sheet in a muted green color that is printed to look textured but is not.
Weight: the heavy fabric makes the duvet a little heavy, but it's not unpleasant and keeps you nice and warm.
Construction: The buttons are not at the very edge (which can be annoying in a duvet), but are a few inches from the edge. The two fabrics used seem very sturdy.
Overall, I really like it. Wish there were more duvets with such unique designs and so well made. It has a sophisticated, bohemian look to it, and I am sure it will last for several years b/c of its sturdy construction. The design side was made in Italy, and it is VERY pretty.

The duvet itself seems to be excellent quality and is very nice, but the color is not something I would describe as lavendar.While it is purple-ish, it has a very pink undertone not usually associated in my mind with lavendar.But, other than that I am very pleased with the item.
